Riyan is a rising senior at Illinois Math and Science Academy (IMSA) in Aurora, where he conducts research and develops digital tools in computational biology and applied computer science. He created an AI-driven early prediction tool for Type 2 Diabetes, as well as an AI-powered skin cancer detection app called DermiDetectAI—both of which have been recognized by the U.S. Congress and honored with multiple grants.
Currently, Riyan conducts research at Northwestern University, investigating a novel method that uses Non-SDS electrophoresis to analyze the structural features of amyloid-β oligomers (AβOs). This work aims to inform the development of targeted therapies for Alzheimer’s disease.
At IMSA, Riyan serves as president of the Debate Club. Outside of school, he is a violinist in IMSA’s Strolling Strings orchestra, performing at various community venues such as retirement homes. Additionally, he is the founder and President of MedEqual, a nonprofit organization committed to advancing diversity in clinical trials and medical research throughout the United States.
Driven by his passion for science and service, Riyan aspires to become a physician-scientist, leveraging his research, technical acumen, and entrepreneurial spirit to improve healthcare outcomes worldwide.
